Meet the Team

Shelby Tyler, Owner & Fiduciary

In 2018, a deeply personal family “rescue mission” led me to the fiduciary field. My husband and I became aware that his father was suffering from severe elder abuse. Driven by compassion and determination, we relocated from Los Angeles to Berkeley to safeguard his well-being. We successfully obtained restraining orders against the abusers, and my husband assumed the role of temporary conservator and later, special administrator of his father’s person and estate.

During this time, my father-in-law, who was in the throes of end-stage dementia, occasionally experienced moments of profound clarity. His words, “Thank you for saving my life, I love you,” left a lasting impact on me. For eight months, we provided round-the-clock care, ensuring his comfort and dignity until his passing. We were honored to arrange his burial with full naval honors, recognizing his service as a WWII and Korean War veteran.

Our journey didn’t end there. My husband pursued legal action against the perpetrator for elder financial and physical abuse, immersing us in extensive paperwork and court proceedings. Despite the challenges, it was a privilege to protect and honor my father-in-law’s last wishes.

Since 2018, I have developed a multifaceted professional career marked by diverse roles and responsibilities. My journey has been characterized by a commitment to advocacy and service, with a focus on maintaining integrity, dignity, and compassion in all endeavors.

My advocacy work spans both the finance and medical sectors. I have championed initiatives designed to improve access to resources and support systems. This work has involved collaborating with various professional to create solutions that address the needs of my clients. I have always approached advocacy with a strong sense of integrity and a dedication to making a positive impact.

Throughout my career, I have remained steadfast in my commitment to working with integrity, dignity, and compassion. These values have guided my decisions and actions, ensuring that I not only meet professional objectives but also contribute meaningfully to the lives of those I serve. As a fiduciary, I am honored to serve with passion and purpose.

Scott Tyler, Owner & Chief Operational Officer

Having  a very prominent 400 year ancestral role in America including many historical personages and descent in England from royalty and the titled aristocracy, and  an unbroken line of physicians and attorneys from 1812 until the death of my father,  I always felt a duty, desire, and obligation to perform service to others. We have been in the greater Bay Area since 1838 where our forebears included James Harvey Porterfield, one of the 31 original rebels who raised the Bear Flag in Sonoma, proclaimed independence from Mexico and were instrumental in the defeat of Mexican forces. My heritage always inspired me and gave me a sense of noblesse oblige  which in my case took the form of many years of service as an educator.  The hideous abuse that befell my father and our success in greatly improving his lot in life with the help of a California Professional Licensed Fiduciary and legal counsel led us to the fiduciary profession for the benefit of both the elderly and younger clients as well.  Now our time has come and we are most grateful for the opportunity.

Susan Mavaji, Senior Accounts Manager

In 2018, after my father’s passing, I became Trustee of his trust. Unfamiliar with estate settlement, I sought guidance from an experienced Probate Attorney. This experience revealed the challenges and complexities of serving as a Trustee, especially during difficult times.

Inspired, I pursued a career as a Licensed Professional Fiduciary, seeking knowledge and expertise to help others in similar situations.

For over seven years, I’ve worked as a Fiduciary Account Manager, gaining extensive experience and knowledge. I approach my responsibilities with integrity, compassion, discretion, and strong work ethics. I believe being a fiduciary involves building trust, protecting interests, and providing dependable support.

My international background, including living abroad for over 40 years in Caracas, Paris, Dubai, and Berlin, has shaped my perspective. It has deepened my appreciation for diverse cultures, traditions, and perspectives, teaching me the importance of understanding and connecting with people from all walks of life.

I’m fluent in English, French, Spanish, with a strong knowledge of Italian and understand German and Portuguese. My language skills and international experience enable me to communicate comfortably with clients and families from diverse backgrounds, appreciating their unique circumstances and perspectives.

I’m committed to providing the highest level of care and personal attention to our clients and community. It’s a privilege to serve in a profession built on trust, and I take that responsibility seriously at Tyler Fiduciary.

I grew up with a physician mother and a teacher father. Seeing their examples of service had an impact on me and as I analyzed my own interests and talents, after graduation with honors from UCLA I made clinical psychology my career choice. Currently I am preparing my doctoral dissertation and serving a practicum with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. The work of Tyler Fiduciary has much to do with matters such as cognitive decline and dementia and I think my studies provide me with insight into conditions such as these and others. I have always had a keen interest in writing and recently had the honor of being published in the Psychological Bulletin of the American Psychological Association, the foremost professional journal of its kind in the U.S.
